persuasive critique

I chose to read a speech written by John F. Kennedy and compare it to the MLK letter and our in class presentation. This particular speech is the Ask not what your country can do for you........ I am not sure if Kennedy actually wrote this speech or not, but he does a great job of motivating the American people by hitting them in the hearts. Everything he mentions can directly be connected to pathos becasue Kennedy wanted to appeal to the emotions of the American people to get them thinking the way he did. I also think much of MLK's letter was pathos because he wanted to get people thinking and feeling that what was going on in that time period was morally wrong, and for people to realize the pain African Americans were experiencing. As for the presentation in class by the recruiters I believe it mostly exemplified logos becuase there were lots of facts and data given in their presentation for the army. They told us of the opportunities we would have and tried to also appeal to our emotions a little by telling us how important the army was and how important it made them feel. Overall the MLK letter was the most persuasive to me because of he eloquent language. LINK (http://www.famousquotes.me.uk/speeches/John_F_Kennedy/5.htm)
